MORE Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ ACADEMICS MAKE THE STANFORD TOP 2% LIST

KUALA LUMPUR: Nine Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ University academics are on Stanford¡¯s World¡¯s Top 2% of Scientists list, marking a 50% improvement from last year¡¯s total of six.

They are: Distinguished Prof Dr Phang Siew Moi, Distinguished Prof Dr Ooi Keng Boon, Senior Prof Dr Garry Tan Wei Han, Prof Dr Richard Peter Bailey, Assoc Prof Dr Mehrbakhsh Nilashi, Assoc Prof Dr Eric Chan Wei Chiang, Assoc Prof Dr Eugene Aw Cheng Xi, and Assoc Prof Dr Shayla Islam.

Breaking down the numbers, Prof Ooi and Dr Nilashi are classified in the world¡¯s top 0.17%, while six Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ academics made the top 1%. Seven academics are also recognised as the top three researchers in Malaysia based on their respective fields and subfields.

Prof Phang, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ deputy vice-chancellor (Research and postgraduate), is ranked as Malaysia¡¯s top scientist in the field of biology, as well as the subfields of marine biology and hydrobiology.

Prof Ooi, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Graduate Business School dean, is ranked as Malaysia¡¯s top researcher in the subfields of information systems, as well as business and management; while Prof Bailey is ranked first in the subfield of sport sciences.

¡°Research is central to what we do at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­, and I¡¯m happy to see that more academics are being recognised globally,¡± said Prof Phang.

¡°We will continue to emphasise consequential research to come up with actionable insights, and we will collaborate more with the world¡¯s best.¡±

She added that Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ has a further 21 adjunct professors who are listed in the annual list that acknowledges the impact of the most cited scientists and academics from around the world.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ stands out as one of Asia¡¯s best private universities in the QS World University Rankings 2024. It is classified in the world¡¯s top 1% by virtue of its top 300 ranking.
